ABOUT

Photo-Artist / Writer / Poet / Educator

All arts are about communication: to ourselves, to others, for personal/political; to share/control; to reveal/to conceal; to confuse/to explore; to make friends/to make differences; to delight/to question.

Whether yelled out or whispered, whether popular or reviled.

David Hockney said, ‘Let others worry about if it is good or bad. You just keep on making.’

True creativity comes from destruction, where courage plays a part in pushing boundaries and never knowing the outcome.

New technology removes limitations. Authenticity vs perfection? Fear that creativity is being sanitized by it?

Axel Hoedt said, ‘It’s important that your image is always yours.’

In the 60s, scientists gave artists acrylic paint, and so painting entered a totally new era (where therapy became popular), making Abstract Expressionism the next stage of the history of art.

Storytelling is the fabric of cultures, people, of past and future.

In 2016, I moved as a painter to photo artist, exploring ‘writing with light’ with my first phone camera device. The device has the intimacy and immediacy of pencil and paper. It overrides the constraints of 2D reality.

Alice in Wonderland, fiction, and Cubism are similarly interesting.

New tech is another tool in the box for making artworks that explore possibilities, make possibilities, and understand possibilities.

She is a powerful voice tackling mental health stigma through her volunteering work, her art and her public speaking. Sue deserves special recognition for never giving up on her causes; for volunteering and giving so generously of her time to help the local community in North West London (she was nominated as a Health Hero); and for her courage and resilience.”
